Service Description

Join us for a creative and hands-on experience where you will learn the techniques required to produce layered prints using the reduction method. Linocut Printing is a type of relief printing: Printing ink is applied to the cut surface of a piece of lino and the image is transferred to paper. The two-day linocut workshop is intended for people with some experience of linocut printing who want to explore the art of multicolour reduction printing. With reduction printing multicoloured prints are achieved using a single piece of linoleum. Essentially, after each successive colour is imprinted onto the paper, the artist then cleans the lino plate and cuts away what will not be imprinted for the subsequently applied colour. For each print run you will produce a number of test prints and then produce four final prints Please come prepared with a picture in mind. Bring an image on paper or be prepared to draw directly onto the lino. Tracing & carbon paper will be available to transfer the picture to the lino. Lino will be cut to the size & shape you want up to a maximum of 17cm by 23.7cm. All equipment and materials will be provided. Everyone should leave with four multicolour prints On the first day we will • Understand the reduction printing process. • How to plan and carve multi-layered designs. • Receive individual advice on your chosen image. • Transfer your image to the lino • Registration techniques for accurate colour alignment • Cut and print the first colour On the second day we will • Review registration techniques • Cut and print the second colour
